Just Grace Non-profit Company Company Information

General information

Who are we?

Just Grace is a non-profit company with the overarching objective of poverty alleviation in Langa, Cape Town.

Our first initiative is our Education Programme which involves after-school tutoring, mentoring, career guidance, university/college application assistance, and computer training for grade 10, 11 and 12 learners. The programme is open to any learners who live or attend school in Langa.
This programme is designed to assist the youth in Langa to reach their full potential and to allow them to meaningfully contribute to society.

Education:

We work with grade 10, 11 and 12 learners in our Education Programme. Our learners receive extra tutoring, mentorship, career guidance and computer skill training. Maths tutoring takes place every Thursday afternoon from 3:00 – 5:00pm and Saturday morning from 9:00 - 11:00am. The Science and Accounting tutoring takes place every Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 – 5:00pm.
We have a team of committed volunteers who give of their time and effort in several different ways.
One of the ways in which volunteers can become involved is to become a tutor. The main subjects that are tutored are Maths, Science and Accounting however, we also hold workshops for the different subjects that the learners may be struggling with.

Mentorship:

Just Grace has developed a mentorship programme where we organize quarterly mentor sessions where all the mentors and learners go through various life skill exercises together. Primarily, mentors are there to motivate and listen to their mentees, give advice where appropriate and to communicate to them that they are valued.
Providing mentors to our learners is a huge part of what makes our education programme a success. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor, please contact us. You would be providing invaluable support and guidance to learners through their most important school year.

Funding:

Just Grace relies on the generous sponsorship of both corporates and individuals.
Our Education Programme is the perfect opportunity for your firm to responsibly give back to its community. We are BEE verified as level 4 and we are able to issue S18A tax certificates where appropriate. Please consider us as part of your CSI budget.
We have created a unique way for individuals to contribute to our education programme by sponsoring a learner so that they may receive tutoring, career guidance, mentorship, computer training and job readiness skills.

Other Programmes:

Besides our Education Programme, Just Grace has created various other programmes in aid of our learners and the greater Langa community. These include the Mock Interview Programme, Just Grace Ventures, Just Grace Refugees, and the Just Grace Mercy Fund.

The Mock Interview programme was created to generate an income to fund Just Grace. We partner with associates from top finance, auditing, investment and consulting firms in order to provide case study and interview preparation to graduates who are looking for employment in these fields. The associates volunteer their time and the graduate pays a fee for the coaching that they receive. The proceeds are then donated to Just Grace. Just Grace Ventures will offer learners who are passionate about entrepreneurship an opportunity to partake in an entrepreneurship course with the possibility of starting a business thereafter. We are currently in the planning phase of this programme, and we are looking for input. If you are a learner, a business owner, a funder or anyone with a passion for entrepreneurship then contact us at: ventures@justgrace.co.za

Just Grace Refugees was created as Just Grace recognises the financial challenges faced by refugees in funding their secondary and tertiary studies. Therefore, we have opened up a new banking code for anyone who would like to donate specifically towards this cause. In addition, if you are a funder or an expert in refugee care or refugee law and would like to support us, please contact us at contact@justgrace.co.za

The Just Grace Mercy Fund was created to support many of our learners who come from impoverished homes and from time to time the need arises for external support to be given to a learner. Most often this fund supports learners who may not have a parent or guardian with sufficient income to provide food or shelter. Please consider donating to our Mercy Fund, or alternatively leave us with your contact details and we can inform you when an opportunity arises to provide mercy support.

Administrative Roles:

There is a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ work that takes place to ensure that Just Grace continues to run effectively and efficiently. Proof reading, administration or organisational management is another area in which volunteers can get involved and if you’re a student looking for experience then Just Grace is always eager to take on new interns. If you are a creative person, your design skills would also be invaluable!

Bible Studies:

Just Grace Bible study takes place on a Friday afternoon. We have seen such amazing growth in these groups, both in numbers and in learners' faith/bible knowledge. We hope to see this growth continue!

Outings and Cultural Activities:

We are not just focused on improving academic performance but also on getting to know the learners and building relationships with them. Much of our relationship building is done on the several annual outings that we do with the learners. Past outings have included: - Hiking up Lions Head - Beach day at Llandudno - Cave golf at the Waterfront - Ten pin bowling and Action soccer.
Just Grace periodically host talks and workshops in order to offer the learners exposure to culture, arts, sport and music. In the past we have hosted motivational speakers, drama workshops, Djembe drum workshops, sports days, poetry classes and the like. If you would like to get involved in these activities, whether you’re an art teacher, dance instructor, music maker, we would love to hear from you!
