PROGRAMMES

The Theatre Arts Admin Collective Emerging Theatre Directors Bursary

In partnership with the Gordon Institute for the Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA), the Baxter Theatre Centre and Distell (link to websites) this unique bursary provides opportunity for 4 emerging directors annually to each create a new piece of work under mentorship. Drawing applications nationally, the bursary plays an essential role in creating opportunity for emerging directors (where few exist) to practice and hone their skills, and to acknowledge black directors within the industry. Previous winners include Amy Jephta, Tara Notcutt, Asanda Phewa, Pusetso Thibedi, Kim Kerfoot and Tsepo wa Mamatu. Bursary winners for 2012 include Nicola Elliott, Thando Doni, Khayelihle Dominique Gumede and Lidija Marelic. Calls for Application take place in February each year. Link names to files on each, with updates and photos.

Inspiring a Generation

In partnership with ASSITEJ SA, Inspiring a Generation is a programme that acknowledges the dearth of inspiring theatre for young people in South Africa in contrast to the global innovation in this field. The programme aims to inspire local theatre makers by exposing them to the very best of international theatre for children and young people, to engage them in debate, to work alongside experts in the field and to create a platform for the development of new work. The 2012 programme participants are Jon Keevy, Lindelwa Kisana, Beren Belknap and Francesco Nassimbeni. Call for Applications take place at the beginning of each year.

Seasons of Performance

Held quarterly, seasons are 7 - 10 day festivals that host between 6 – 8 productions, diverse in style, content and language. Workshops for young people, theatre practitioners and arts managers are an essential part of each season.

Learning Placements in Arts Administration, Publicity and Fundraising.

Learning Placements are core to the work of the Theatre Arts Admin Collective and offer opportunity to between 2 and 4 applicants annually to acquire hands on training in the daily management of the organization and its projects. The Learning Placements are designed to bring experience and skill to an under-resourced aspect of the industry in order to contribute to the development and sustainability of independent theatre companies and arts organizations.

School Subisdy Programme

The School Subisdy Programme is a highly successful partnership between schools, the Theatre Arts Admin Collective, local businesses and the HCI Foundation that enables children and young people from disadvantaged communities to attend performances and workshops. Based on the ethos that theatre is not for free, all children contribute what they can to their theatre ticket, and the school subsidy covers the balance. The School Subsidy Programme is a smart way to develop audiences, create partnerships, support independent theatre companies and artists and contribute to the sustainability of the Theatre Arts Admin Collective.
