General information
Working on Fire Pty (Ltd) implements the Department of Environmental Affairs’ Expanded Public Works programme, Working on Fire (WoF). WoF was launched in September 2003 as an initiative to create jobs, restoring dignity in the lives of our participants, saving the lives of our citizens and protecting the environment. The programme implements integrated fire management products and services.
Today WoF employs more than 5000 young men and women who have been fully trained as veld and forest fire fighters and are stationed in over 200 bases throughout South Africa.
WoF addresses the prevention and control of wild land fires through the implementation of Integrated Fire Management (IFM) practices.
