Klip Valley Primary School

General information

Thabang Primary School was built in 1959. It started working in 1961. It was the third or fourth school to be operational in Dobsonville. The school takes pride in the number of leaners who’ve gone through it, as some are teachers, nurses, managers etc.
When it started there were only 10 classrooms in the two blocks, there was an administrative block as well as a storeroom. The problem with these is that they were built of a slab that can’t be extended. Further these had been built typically for people in the townships and thus they were below par even as they were being built.
In 1979 two new blocks were added. This resulted in us having 18 classrooms. We have converted one classroom into a media and resources centre. There we have computer desks assembled and ready to have to have computers put on them. This is also where we hope to store valuables like photocopies etc, should we get some. We are currently fortifying this classroom in terms of burglar proofing and alarm system.
The school is without an administrative block, a multi-purpose hall, a functional resource and media centre, a library. We do not have proper sports facilities either.
Thabang Primary, like many other primary schools admits learners along tribal lines. This is a challenge to schools. Another inevitability is the increase of grades until the Sixth, since the school goes as high as Grade IV.
Since 1997 the Governing Body has been developing internal policy. We now have guiding documents in terms the School constitution, School Policy, policy on Drugs, HIV/AIDS etc, all complying with National and Provincial Guidelines, We are now at a stage where we are conducting workshops to ensure that both the educators and the members of the Governing Body plan and execute programmes that take the school to greater heights.
