General information

ACT provides funding for all expressions of arts and culture, including literature, music, visual art, theatre and dance, and the support extends to festivals, community arts initiatives, arts management, arts education and arts administration. It embraces all aspects of arts and culture advancement such as training, the creative process, and the development of sustainable infrastructure.

Structured ACT funding programmes support projects that contribute to improving the quality of life in communities where it is most glaringly needed. This is done in conjunction with extending support to innovative projects, which renew and advance the arts in South Africa. In all these endeavours, ACT covers the broad spectrum of the arts from grassroots and community-based projects to professional initiatives.

ACT funds are allocated to projects by an independent Board of Trustees, comprised of leading arts practitioners and administrators. By using ACT as the conduit for corporate social investments in artistic and cultural activities, private sector companies rest in the secure knowledge that their investment is being judiciously applied to maximum effect.
