The Area: Melville

84 on Fourth Guest House is set in a perfect location in one of Johannesburg’s most unique and vibrant neighbourhoods. Melville has historically been a mecca for creatives, students, and academics, you can almost guarantee to eavesdrop on a conversation debating solutions to socio-economic questions over a java in one of the many local coffee shops. The style of the area reflects the imagination of many of the local artists and in a single stroll you can treasure hunt through vintage shops, enjoy one of kind cocktails in the hip bars and titillate the palette with food from all around the world. 27Boxes retail park, made from recycled storage containers is just two blocks away, here you will find some of the most interesting products made with love by entrepreneurs from across the country and continent. The area is home to some of Joburg’s most iconic restaurants serving everything from handmade pastas, fusion South African and Thai and fresh sustainable ingredients like grass fed beef. For the nature lovers, just a few blocks away is the historic Melville Koppies, a nature reserve to countless bird and plant species, offering its visitors many footpaths for hiking that provide unrivaled views of the city.

The Guest House

84 on Fourth is set in a lush garden with a secluded courtyard in the middle set to the sound of a trickling fountain. We have 8 rooms in total; all of our rooms have their own private entrance with a flat-screen TV and DSTV, fridge, tea/coffee facilities, high quality percale linen, en-suite bathroom and free wi-fi.

Room Descriptions:

1 Family Suite: With two separate rooms, one with a King bed and a second with two twin beds. Each room has its own flat screen TV and the ensuite bathroom has both a shower and a delectable clawfoot tub.

1 Triple Standard: With a large queen-sized bed and one twin bed.

3 Standard Rooms: All with comfy queen-sized beds.

2 Luxury Rooms: With large king-sized beds and working stations. Room 5 has a long brick hallway that leads you to an over-sized ensuite with a clawfoot tub at the centre and a separate shower. Room 4 is very spacious and has its very own secluded courtyard.

1 Compact Room: This room is snug but it’s perfect for a close couple or a solo traveller. It has a double bed and a little courtyard of its very own.

Breakfast

Our delicious breakfast is included in the tariff and will start your day off right! Your first course consists of a seasonal fruit salad, yogurt, cereal and muesli. Your second course is up to you, you can choose from five different hot options including a Full 84 on Fourth breakfast which includes eggs your way, baked beans, bacon (or a vegetarian alternative), sautéed mushrooms and roasted tomato, or perhaps hot oats topped with fruit, roasted almonds and organic honey. Our team is passionate about food so we won’t let you down!

Our Team

We are an energetic team with a diverse set of passions and talents. Jenny, Mxolisi and Neli will always be ready to help you at the guest-service desk, whether you need direction on where to eat or help booking a safari. Pat and Precious will make sure you start your day off right with a delicious meal and come back to a spotless room. As for me, Zorana, I’m at your disposal 24/7 and my main goal is to make sure you leave loving this city as much as I do and feeling at home while you’re exploring. Whatever you need, we’re here for you. We can book airport transfers before your arrival, if you want to do walking tours or safari adventures we can take care of all of the logistics or if you would prefer to dine with us in the evening we can organise a dinner service. We also offer secure parking on-site, but please let us know in advance.
